Company History

Year
1919 Dipl.-Ing. Richard Schmid and Dipl.-Ing. Walter Wezel founded an engine works in Stuttgart.
1921 Launch of the BIAX brand – synonymous with flexible shafts.
1923 Move to a factory building in Maulbronn.
1924 Founding of their own company in the USA.
1934 EFA meat processing machines offer a new product line.
1945 Under the management of Mr Hans-Georg Wezel the production of flexible shafts and meat processing machines was expanded.
1954 Foundation of the subsidiary BIAX Tools GmbH & Co.
1968 Foundation of BIAX GmbH in Steckborn (CH).
1989 Mr. Dipl.-Kfm. Ulrich Merkle takes over as managing director.

The third generation of the family thereby takes over the management of the company.

1993 Foundation of the EFA Processing Equipment Company in Omaha (USA).
1997 The company is DIN ISO 9001 certified.
1998 Foundation of BIAX Italia S.r.I. in Rovereto (I).
1998 Acquisition of SIG Airtool Division in Neuhausen am Rheinfall (CH).
2000 Introduction of a modern EAP system.
2000 Continuous expansion of the machine park with modern CNC machining centres.
2001 BIAX GmbH moved from Steckborn to Neuhausen am Rheinfall (CH).
2003 Construction and opening of a new production and administration building in Maulbronn.
2004 The company is DIN EN ISO 9001 certified. Regular recertification’s in the following years.
2010 Introduction of a repair service with complete overhaul in our in-house repair shop.
2012 Introduction of the new “RSC Modular” pneumatic robot spindle system with deflection.
2014 Establishment of the competence center for automated deburring at the Maulbronn headquarters.
2015 Opening of the scraper academy with regularly scheduled one-week scraper seminars.
2019 ANNIVERSARY – 100 years of Schmid & Wezel
2019 The anniversary model of the flexible shaft drive “MB 50 G” is released.
2019 Mr. Torsten Wiesenmaier takes over as managing director.

Since 2013 he has been the authorized officer (financial manager) of the company.

2019 Market launch of the new electric micro grinder “SE 50 Silent Grinder”.
2020 Certification in the field of export/customs to AEO-C (Authorized Economic Operator)
2020 Transfer of the production of our burrs from the Neuhausen (CH) plant to Germany.
2020 The new BIAX air spindles with quick tool change system and axial deflection are introduced to the market.
2022 BIAX-Maschinen GmbH moved from Neuhausen am Rheinfall to Thayngen (CH).
